Crosses on chains worn as ornamentation,
Symbols of faith, or mere decoration? Crosses of jewels, of silver or gold, Subdued and discreet, or strikingly bold Are the crosses just jewelry, just something to wear, Or symbols of spiritual crosses we bear? Jesus said, "Take up the crossFollow Me." How can we do that so others will see? No metal, though precious, no jewel, though rare, Can express Jesus' love in the crosses we wear. We take up His cross as we hear and obey, As we reach out in love, as we trust Him and pray. We convey His sweet Truth when we bear as we should The blest Word of His gift on a cross made of wood. |
