DEAR GOOD SHEPHERD

line

Tonight, Dear Good Shepherd, I feel like a little lost lamb.
I had thought of myself as a wise one;
I had even encouraged the other sheep
To listen for Your Voice and follow You.
What happened?
Where are You?
How did I get entangled in these too familiar thorns?
I hardly dare ask where the other sheep are
Did I lead them off the path?
In my zeal to help, did I step between them and You?

Dear Good Shepherd, I cannot escape these thorns.
The more I struggle, the more I am held fast.
The harder I fight, the weaker I become.
Scratches and cuts cause more pain.
Night has come; I cannot see or hear You.
Do the other sheep care that I am here alone?
Alone and empty.
Lonely and afraid.
Where are You?
Tonight, Dear Good Shepherd, I feel like a little lost lamb.

Dear Good Shepherd, I am so glad to see Your Face again!
Your Sweet Voice is a balm to my sore spirit.
I wait quietly as, with Your deft Hands,
You gently disentangle me from the thorns.
The rebuke that I deserve does not come.
With words of love
You lift me in Your strong Arms
To hold me tightly, to carry me swiftly, surely,
To set me once more in the safety of the fold.
Thank You, Dear Good Shepherd, for loving Your little lost lamb.
