MOTHER'S DAY FLOWER

line

On Mother's Day, I felt the steady ache
Of missing Mother on this special day,
Of longing for wee ones that never were,
And missing those who live so far away.

Then in the afternoon two welcome guests,
A friend came with her grandchild Brittany,
A tiny charmer who, with flow'r in hand,
Reached out and smiled, then gave the bloom to me.

Her eyes aglow with sheer delight, she said,
"Here, Miss Diane, I picked this flow'r for you."
I hugged my thanks; oh, how I would enjoy
The honeysuckle's white and yellow hue!

The hint of mild sweet fragrance touched the room.
This sweet child's gift, bestowed so joyfully,
Had cheered my heart. She seemed so filled with love;
What blessing that she shared a part with me!
