MESSAGE TO TWO WOMEN
(based on Philippians 4:2,3)

line

Stop and think!
Oh, contentious Euodias and Synteche, will you heed the apostle's entreaty?
Try to understand the lengths to which your quarrel will reach.
Think of the precious children who, watching wide-eyed,
Learn proud and bitter lessons that you must not wish to teach.
Think.
Is this dispute and all its subtle spreading implications worthy of your Master?
Think of your Philippian church, first planted on the riverside,
Watered by the blood of two prayerful, faithful men,
Established when the captive-freeing earthquake shook prison doors open wide.
Think, Christian women!
Heed the plea of the dear apostle who beseeches you.
Would you keep your house of worship steadfast? Then humbly yield,
Lest, like the foolish woman, you tear it down with your own hands
Clinging stubbornly to the unseen killing knives of poison that you wield.
Think, dear Christian women. Think!
