THINKING OF DADDY

line

How will I think of Daddy this day in May,
The anniversary of his sudden death?
Somehow, today I do not feel the sharp pain
Of stubborn grief; instead, the peace-giving breath
Of Heaven-sent consolation strengthens me.
Oh, if Daddy saw me sad and heard me cry,
He would say, "Hush now. There's no use in all that."
The time for grieving tears is long past, and I,
My pain now eased, delight in the precious gift
Of hope. In memory I can hear once more
His joyful laugh, hear his voice sing out in praise...
I'll think of him praising God on Heaven's shore.
