AS HES FORGIVEN ME

line

In a time of pain and torment, I prayed for sweet relief,
But the Heavens seemed as brass to block my pleas.
I prayed, "Dear God, where are You? Have You abandoned me?
Remember I'm Your child. I beg You for release."

I claimed Isaiah fifty-nine verse one to base my prayer.
I cried, "Dear Lord, I know Your Word is true.
I know Your ear is not heavy that You cannot hear."
I heard the Spirit answer, "Go back and read verse two."

He said, "There rests within your heart a loathsome sin so vile.
Bitter hate and unforgiveness poisons you.
Forgive the ones who've wronged you, for vengeance is Mine.
If I choose to forgive them, then what is that to you?"

I blushed with shameful sorrow; I knew He spoke the truth.
The light of Christ within me was so dim.
I bore a grudge within my heart, a record kept of wrongs.
This roll call of revenge had cut me off from Him.

In the sea of God's forgetfulness, my sin is hid from view
There to remain through all eternity.
My Holy Heavenly Father now sees me clean and pure
Through the precious blood that Jesus shed for me.

If I have been forgiven, then I must not refuse
Forgiveness to the ones who've injured me.
Judgment is God's province; it rests with Him alone.
I obey His Word. Forgiving sets me free.

The Father gives His children full pardon clear and free
Through the blood that Jesus shed on Calvary.
Since He forgave my debt of sin and bore its shame for me,
I must forgive as He's forgiven me.
